Allen

2023

The right food recommendation for the right allergy.

mY Role and summary

As a team, we were able to design a solution that created easy access to tailored food recipes with ingredients, restaurants and grocery stores that have these allergy-friendly products, We also noticed that allergies to food are quite volatile so we designed Allen and AI(Artificial intelligence) that helps user track different food allergies and acts as a diary for doctors reports and more.

Challenge, purpose and definition

What’s the issue with food and allergies?

What’s the issue with food and allergies?

We aimed to address the challenges faced by individuals with food allergies and dietary restrictions, particularly when traveling or migrating to new environments. This case study outlines the journey from problem identification to the creation of a solution that improves the quality of life for its users.

Problem

People with diet with allergy restrictions know what to avoid but not what to eat especially when travelling or relocation

We asked around and Here’s what we found out

We asked around and Here’s what we found out

  • Travel often leads to the discovery of new allergies, which are unpredictable and challenging to manage.

  • Users expressed a need for accessible information on allergens in foods and a supportive community to navigate food choices.

  • The importance of real-time ingredient analysis, local restaurant recommendations, and a comprehensive allergy logger was emphasized.

WITH ALL THESE INFO WE DEFINED WHAT WE WANTED OUR PROPOSED SOLUTION TO ACHIEVE

People who travel and have dietary restrictions need an application that helps recommend food options and where to get them to help improve the quality of life for exploration

The design APPROACH

We laid an architecture of all the ideas of feature we got based on the feedback we got from the research

recommendation and search

DESIGN

We created a home screen that was intuitive focusing on recommended recipes that were tailored to your allergies or dietary restriction incorperating a search module that was robust in not just finding recipes but finding recipes, restaurants that sell recipes and convince stores that sell ingredients to this recipes. Another feature we thought of was a scan feature to get allergens and alternative to products sold in the store

After several iteration we created a design that was focused on giving specific results that were intuitive. For the Documentation we had to take note of the how content is structured form H1 to H2 to Body as this would inform the the hierarchy of results, this also pushed for segmentation of the various type of content. For the community We had to carefully design the content to be less overwhelming by hiding unnecessary information and curating result and context

rECIPE, RESTAURANTS AND STORES

DESIGN

We created individual pages for our core results which were recipes restaurants and store. The recipe screen is divided into 3 sections (Ingredients, Instructions on how to cook and the restaurants to get such recipes ). The restaurants screen include the location, review and menu with allergy friendly dish at the top. We also created a system for allergy points, this helps people who try foods know if a lot of people are more likely to have an allergy reaction
